A Brief Biography
I'm Dave Norberg. I was born in Tacoma and grew up in University Place. I lived there until 1992 when I graduated from High School. From there, I went to the University of Washington's main campus in Seattle. I graduated in 1997 with a B.A. in History and a minor in Russian Language. In 1998, I married, moved to Bellingham, and began graduate school at Western Washington University. I finished my Master's Degree in History in 2001, moved back south, and began teaching at Green River Community College in the fall of 2001. Now I live in Tacoma and have two sons, ages eight and five. They keep us quite busy!
A few of my non-historical interests include: hiking/camping, geocaching, gardening, web development, and reading on many topics (but nearly all non-fiction). I am especially interested in amateur astronomy and spaceflight, and I'm currently the webmaster for the Tacoma Astronomical Society.
My personal astronomy-related website is at http://djnorberg.nventure.com/astro/wadarksky.htm
Me at the ghost town of Franklin, WA in 2003. I've been reading on / researching the history of the town here and there for the past few years. It was a coal mining town that thrived in the 1890s. Like Roslyn, it was a company town. African Americans, many who were former slaves, were recruited to come work in local mines. The company was frustrated by local workers going on strike, and hoped to undermine the power of organized labor in the region by dividing the workers.
